Adolescent Meningococcal ACWY vaccine
A single dose of meningococcal ACWY vaccine (Nimenrix) is available for 15-19 year olds through the national programme. This targets young people in the peak risk group for catching or spreading the disease. Those in year 10 will receive theirs at school.
Measles cases have increased worldwide - including Australia. It is probable this is because herd immunity has decreased due to some people deciding not to vaccinate against what is still a very serious condition. If your children are not fully immunised we suggest coming in to arrange this.
There is a subset of adults who should also have a booster. These are adults born from 1966 to 1994. Adults born prior to the introduction of measles immunisation in 1966 essentially all (>90%)contracted the illness and are immune for life. Between 1966 and 1994 a single dose schedule was used. People who only had one dose of the vaccine should still have a catch up booster.
