High quality care from Doctors invested in your life journey

Paediatric Health

At Duchess Medical we provide quality care for kids in the South West, from the new born period, right through to adolescence.

We offer childhood vaccinations at both our Busselton and Vasse clinics and our practice nurses assist in creating a safe and supportive environment, for both routine childhood and travel immunisations.

Women's Health & Obstetrics

Their service encompasses family planning, pregnancy care, management during labour and birth and then newborn and post-natal care. Clinic appointments are offered at both Busselton and Vasse, while management during labour and birth is provided by them at Busselton Health Campus.

Our range of women’s health services also includes:

  • Sexual health checks

  • Breast checks

  • Implanon and Mirena Insertion and Removal

  • Menopause management

Medicine for Seniors

GPs at Duchess Medical are passionate about accompanying our patients throughout their life journey, helping them navigate complex health care decisions and enabling you to lead an independent and fulfilling life for as long as possible.

Some of the GPs at Duchess Medical Practice offer nursing home care, including at each of the nursing homes across Busselton and Dunsborough.

Minor Surgical Procedures

Duchess Medical offers a safe and convenient environment for a range of minor procedures. Our clinics in Busselton and Vasse offer fully equipped treatment rooms and incorporate a skilled team of practice nurses. Common procedures that we offer include:

  • Iron Infusions

  • Wedge Resection of Ingrown Toenails

  • Cryotherapy

  • Biopsy and excision of Skin Lesions and Cysts

  • Wound Management

  • Insertion and Removal of Implanon and Mirena Devices

  • Ear Syringing

Our patients see their GPs prior to these procedures to provide an opportunity for planning and discussion. When booking for your procedure, please inform our reception staff about the purpose of the appointment, so that they can ensure adequate time on the day of your procedure.

Skin Checks

Living in the South West, we have an incredible surrounding environment to be active in and explore. With our outdoor lifestyle comes sun exposure and the potential to develop skin cancer. Early detection of skin cancer is critical to minimise impact and achieve better outcomes.

At Duchess Medical we offer regular skin clinics to prevent, detect and treat skin cancer before it becomes advanced. Our doctors have undergone additional training in this area and utilise dermatoscopy to ensure accurate and early diagnosis of skin cancer. Please avoid the use of nail polish and make-up prior to skin checks.

Travel Medicine

Planning a trip away? Duchess Medical is the first destination you need to visit before heading overseas.

We offer comprehensive consultations on your travel plans and health requirements, including recommended vaccinations; requirement for malaria prevention; and advice about altitude sickness, specific for your travel destination and health needs. Duchess Medical Practice keeps a range of travel vaccinations on site, as well as being an Australian Government accredited Yellow Fever vaccine provider.

We recommend making travel consults at least 6 weeks prior to departure. However, we can also help you with last minute travel needs.

Doctors at our clinics can provide you with travel medical kits to take away with you and our service also extends to follow up advice and treatment of any illnesses acquired while travelling overseas.

Occupational Health

Duchess Medical provides a range of occupational health services including the following:

  • Pre-employment medical examinations to determine medical fitness for proposed duties in a workplace role

  • Workplace injury management

  • Minor surgery including suturing and minor fracture management

  • Occupational vaccinations

  • Urine drug and alcohol testing

Chronic Disease Management

GPs at Duchess Medical are passionate about working collaboratively with patients in our community to enable you to improve your health. We do this through a focus on illness prevention and early identification of problems.  When complex conditions are detected, we embrace patient-centred care - creating individualised plans to educate and empower patients to improve their health.

Examples of chronic diseases are asthma, diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease and osteoporosis.

Patients with chronic diseases are eligible for a GP Management Plan each year.  When appropriate, Team Care Arrangements can be organised and can provide up to 5 Medicare subsidised referrals to allied healthcare providers each year.

Mental Health

Depression and anxiety impact the lives of many people in the South West. Feeling down or stressed for short periods of time is common, like after a significant stressor or suffering a loss. But we encourage people to seek help when it impacts your quality of life, lasts a significant period of time, or impairs your ability to function socially, at school or within your workplace. Over the years, awareness and acceptance of these illnesses has increased, yet many people still remain quiet, or unwilling to seek help.

The positive news is depression and anxiety have safe and effective treatments.

Health Assessments

Duchess Medical offers annual Health Assessments for people over the age of 75 years and once-off Health Assessments for those aged 45-49 years.

Health Assessments involve initially meeting with one of our Practice Nurses and then a review with your GP afterwards. Our Practice Nurse may offer to meet at your own home to complete the nurse review. These assessments offer a great opportunity to consider various areas impacting your health that may not have recently been covered during routine GP appointments.

The focus of Health Assessments is preventative care – solving problems before they happen, and identifying things that can be done to help you live an independent and fulfilling life for longer. At Duchess Medical, we bulk bill the Over 75 Health Assessment so there is no cost to you.

COVID-19

Can I receive COVID-19 vaccines at Duchess Medical Practice?

Duchess Medical continues to offer a safe and supportive environment to access Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines for all patients aged 5 years and over.

For advice about COVID-19 vaccine eligibility in Western Australia, please visit : https://www.healthywa.wa.gov.au/COVID19vaccine

I have tested positive for COVID-19 and would like to discuss accessing COVID-19 oral antiviral treatment with my GP

Specific vulnerable patients are eligible for COVID-19 oral antiviral treatment after they test positive for COVID-19. This treatment is most effective when started soon after diagnosis. Duchess Medical offers Telehealth appointments each day to ensure prompt access to this treatment for our most vulnerable patients.

I have new respiratory symptoms and would like to book a face to face appointment with my GP

For patients with new onset symptoms (eg snotty nose, cough, sore throat or fever) present less that 1 week we request that you perform a RAT test prior to booking an appointment and inform reception staff of the result. We are aware of the ongoing risk posed by respiratory infection to our staff and more vulnerable patients within our clinic. Therefore, patients seeking face to face appointments with respiratory symptoms present less than 1 week are directed to park in specific isolation bays close to our clinic, and your GP will review you wearing adequate personal protection.

Men’s Health

GPs at Duchess Medical have got you covered for your men’s health needs. Our range of men’s health services include men’s health checks, sexual health checks, assessment and management of mental health, managing existing chronic disease, sporting injuries, prostate and testicular disease and vasectomies.

Telehealth

To ensure a safe clinic environment for our community and to provide increased convenience we offer telehealth appointments. GPs at Duchess Medical may feel that for some problems a Telehealth assessment is not adequate and your GP may ask for you to come in for a face to face consultation.

What are the fees for Telehealth appointments?

To be eligible for MBS funded Telehealth service you must have seen your GP or another GP at Duchess Medical Practice for a face to face appointment at least once in the 12 months prior to the date of your Telehealth consultation.

This means that if you haven't attended Duchess Medical for a face to face appointment in the previous 12 months, you will incur the full consultation cost and no Medicare rebate can be applied.

How can I access a medication script after my appointment?

If you require a script following your Telehealth consultation your GP can arrange for it to be texted or emailed to you, or emailed directly to your preferred pharmacy.

Vasectomies

As part of the range of family planning services that are offered at Duchess Medical, Dr Russell Hartley performs vasectomies.

Vasectomies are a permanent family planning option for male patients. If you are considering pursuing vasectomy you can book to see Dr Hartley to provide an opportunity to discuss the procedure, including costs, benefits, side effects and risks and plan a date to return and undergo the procedure. Dr Hartley performs the procedure under local anaesthetic, sometimes with a light calmative medication, in a dedicated procedure room.

Palliative Care

At Duchess Medical, we pride ourselves on quality care throughout the life journey. An important component of this is end of life care. Toward the end of life, we aim to collaborate with patients and families to provide care that fulfills your priorities and wishes.

While many of the GPs at Duchess provide palliative care to their patients, Dr Jonty Rothstein has a special interest in this area. As well as providing care to his patients at Duchess, Jonty also has a community palliative care role through the WA Country Health Service.
